The Honesty in Fashion Blogging

4a2856c86a7e635760b9d35448da5d72How the days of reading fashion blogs have changed. Noticeably in the last few years, there have been a sudden boom in the amount of growth in fashion blogging on every social media platform. The day’s where fashion blogs were a hobby that showed what you were really wearing out everyday, are now more replaced with well-refined posts with high quality photography. The reality is that fashion blogging is a business for many blogs. The line between choosing these pieces can often be blurred, when some bloggers are being gifted with clothes for free, sponsored, paid for it or are genuinely honest.

If you’re like me, you wear your favourite clothes to the death until the threads start loosening, which is why it’s handy to have a sewing kit. For some, wearing the same clothing twice seen would be unthinkable, but isn’t that what clothes are for? The question is would we wear most of the clothing we see in popular high end brands today? I sure have moments where I see something lovely, and think to myself, I’d love to wear that. Then other questions arise about the pricing, the brand and the authenticity. We consume enough clothing per year to have a massive impact on the environment.

The lifestyle often portrayed in these carefully curated posts, need a pinch of reminder that this isn’t an everyday reality. We’re all living our lives with ups and downs. A picture may speak a thousand words, but what’s happening behind the scenes always goes unseen. We can be inspired by fashion bloggers – I know I can name a few from the tip of my tongue, however we shouldn’t feel inspired by someone merely by the way they look. “Goals” seem to take on the elements of having things, living in a high lifestyle and having a fit body, rather than meaningful goals.

Aside from all of that, my appreciation goes out to the amount of hard work, creativity and integrity that goes into maintaining a fashion blog, while creating new content every week. I respect bloggers who choose to stay honest to themselves as well as their readers. As someone who enjoys reading fashion blogs for several years now, it’s great to see how many fashion bloggers have grown. Whether you prefer looking at fashion blogs with a high end magazine editorial feel, lifestyle and health or ethical fashion blogs, keep reading them. At the end of the day, wear what makes you feel comfortable and stylish.
